Jensten Underwriting launches Commercial Combined proposition for sports clubs

New appetite across six sectors, from grassroots football and community rugby to gyms and Britain’s fastest-growing sport, padel.

Jensten Underwriting has launched a Commercial Combined proposition for sports clubs, giving brokers a single home for six sectors: football, gyms and fitness studios, padel, hockey, rugby and athletics.

Each sector has its own appetite guide, so brokers can check in minutes whether a client is a fit and see exactly what information the underwriting team needs to quote.

Built around how clubs really operate

Sports clubs rarely fit neatly into a single box. A rugby club may earn as much from its bar and function room as it does from subscriptions. A hockey club may play on leased school artificial turf and share a clubhouse with three other sports. A 24-hour gym may run without staff on site for most of the night.

The proposition is designed with those realities in mind. It covers owned or leased premises in buildings from 1800 onwards, from grassroots football clubs to multi-site gym operators.

Key cover highlights

  • Business Interruption, available alongside Material Damage
  • Liability cover, available alongside Material Damage and Business Interruption
  • Material Damage, also available standalone
  • Legal Expenses included
  • Up to £15 million Total Sums Insured any one risk location
  • Minimum premium £1,200

Six sectors, one appetite

  • Football: grassroots and amateur clubs, with clubhouses, licensed bars, floodlit and 3G pitches
  • Gyms: independent, 24-hour and unattended gyms, health clubs, boutique studios and multi-site operators
  • Padel: indoor and outdoor courts, on membership, pay-to-play or booking models
  • Hockey: clubs on leased or shared council and school artificial turf
  • Rugby: clubhouses, bars, post-match hospitality and function hire
  • Athletics: clubs on leased or council tracks, including road races and cross-country events

A growing market

Demand is growing. The LTA confirmed in May 2026 that more than 1 million people now play padel in Britain, up from around 15,000 in 2019. The UK had 7,202 gyms open in March 2025, according to LeisureDB, and the FA reports more than 1.6 million affiliated players in the grassroots game.

“Sports clubs are at the heart of their communities, and they deserve insurance that reflects everything they do, not just what happens on the pitch. We’ve built this proposition so brokers can bring us their clubs with confidence, knowing they’ll reach an underwriter who understands the sector and wants to write it.”

Paul Griffith, Underwriting Team Leader at Jensten Underwriting
